Bálint Érdi was born on March 30, 1945, in Esztergom, Hungary, and graduated in mathematics, physics, and astronomy teaching at Eötvös Loránd University in 1968. He joined the university’s Department of Astronomy the same year and served as its head from 1998 to 2009. An expert in celestial mechanics, his research spans traditional and modern methods, particularly the dynamics of Trojan asteroids. He has supervised numerous academic works, published extensively, and received international recognition, including having the asteroid (241363) Erdibalint named in his honor.

Meeting Scope

We are organizing an international scientific conference titled The Art of the Invisible Force: the Dynamics of Equilibria Near and Far (Scientific Conference in Honor of Bálint Érdi)" to celebrate Professor Bálint Érdi's 80th birthday. Professor Emeritus Bálint Érdi was born on March 30, 1945, in Esztergom, Hungary. He graduated from Eötvös Loránd University (ELTE) and worked at the university's Department of Astronomy. His field of expertise, celestial mechanics, has made him a prominent figure internationally. His research has focused on studying Trojan asteroids in the Solar System. Over the course of his career, he collaborated with numerous international institutions and researchers, contributing significantly to advancements in both astronomy and celestial mechanics. His work has been impactful not only within the scientific community but also in shaping future generations as a dedicated university professor. This international conference is organized in recognition of his outstanding career and achievements.

The meeting will focus on:

  • Special cases of the gravitational N-body problem
  • Dynamical and physical characterization of planetary systems
  • Regularization, chaotic and ordered behaviour in Hamiltonian systems
  • Formation of planetary systems
  • Astrodynamics, space debris and satellites
